Trainspotting: 1g vs 2g stator identification

Trainspotting: 1g vs 2g stator identification

2g is thinner than 1g, also usually 2g has black wires and 1g has yellow wires. But who knows, you may also have some aftermarket one which has all sorts of other colors... Also, 1g wire is longer. Also not a clear tell. But the thickness is definitely. Left: 1g, Right, 2g

Trainspotting: 4 magnet vs 8 magnet speedometer drive

Trainspotting: 4 magnet vs 8 magnet speedometer drive

99-04 sv650 (yes across generations) send 4 pulses per revolution of the front wheel to the speedometer.  05+ sv650 send 8.  If your sv650 speedometer is reading double, or half, the actual speed, you probably have the wrong gauge cluster or wrong spinner.  There are 2 ways to tell which it is. 1) the 8 magnet has a little plastic cover. the 4 magnet does not. unfortunately i have no way of getting it to show up in my pictures... black on black..  2) grab a small magnet. as you run it around the circle, count the spots where the rotor...

S to N Swaps - Ergonomics Version 2G

So in another post, I ranted about swapping the plastics to a headlight. This is related/unrelated because the "other" S to N swap is about the handlebars. You should use the workshop manual primarily, this is just a supplement to it,and a few notes.  1g offsets are the same so you can swap tops onto either bottom. cable and line length still applies, but it's significantly simpler overall Couple things to consider: 1) you need BOTH the N triples. can't just swap a top on. see this post: https://www.mad8v.com/blogs/blahg/2nd-gen-s-vs-n-triple-identification OR some people drill holes in their S top triple and mount...

S to N swaps - Cosmetic version for a 2nd Gen Sv650S

So you're considering swapping fronts from an S model to an N. There are actually 2 swaps people refer to when they talk about this. The cosmetic fairing/light swap, and the ergonomics swap.  Unfortunately I haven't done a 1g myself, but I've done a couple versions on the 2g. 99-02 won't be VERY different, but you may have some extra steps or skip some steps.  If you're ALSO doing the handlebars conversion, you should read the other part of the blog. That will also make the gauge cluster mounting a breeze. Fairing to N light (style change retaining clipons and...

Trainspotting: 2nd gen S vs N triple identification

2g sv650 and sv650s had different fork offsets S has 28mm, N has 26.5mm. Not a huge difference, BUT if you manage to hammer the wrong upper onto the wrong lower, you'll now have tweaked forks. No bueno, right? So in order to figure out fairly easily and without drawing, measuring, calculating etc whether the bottom triple is S or N, there are 2 things to look for    <--S N-->  look the same right? look closer  This is an S This is an N the S has one continuous curve in the highlighted area. the N is a little...
