There Is No Such Thing As Too Much BP/Headturn

Newer riders will often have difficulty getting their head turned enough for maneuvers, and will almost always feel their body position and head turn is too aggressive for what they're doing. Anthony McAuliffe (not a motorcyclist but a man of few but effective words) would likely answer that the same way he answered the Germans: Nuts!  Head Turns: look all the way through the turn to let yourself aim the bike. We hear this... in about every single video or article. But hey, what if I turned my head and this is still hard? Probably because you can turn it more. But...

The Outside Foot

I've been pondering the "i dont feel locked in" and "i'm putting a bunch of weight on the inside peg" problem with body positioning. What a rider does with their outside foot can generate a locked in feeling, or a feeling of falling off.  I've found that consciously pivoting the outside foot toes out/heel in will drive your knee/thigh into the tank and provide a much more stable platform for hanging off on the other side. To the point where I absolutely dont need to use my arms at all for any stabilization. of course I didn't "invent" this. Or...

An Interesting Side-Effect to Proper Body Positioning

We’ve all heard the benefits of BP for road speed corners…. Increased clearance, increased traction, reduced anxiety, aerodynamic drag towards the inside, etc. Something that I’ve not seen mentioned anywhere yet, is that it makes countersteering the bike easier and more intuitive.  Your shoulders are pointed into the turn. Your outside arm is straight. There is very little that arm can do except PULL on the bar. It’s not able to provide much of a push just because pushing is an awkward motion. It also can’t fight the inside hand very much. Your inside hand is the one driving the...
